This week, Stilwell Public Schools proudly joins schools across the nation in celebrating National GEAR UP Week and recognizing the impact Oklahoma GEAR UP continues to have on our students and families.
At Stilwell, this partnership is about much more than preparing students for what comes after high school. It is about opening doors, removing barriers, providing resources, and helping students see the possibilities ahead of them.
The numbers tell an incredible part of that story. Through our partnership with Oklahoma GEAR UP, 557 students participated in college and career workshops, 314 students received academic counseling, 181 students received financial aid counseling, 154 students visited a college campus, and 51 families received GEAR UP services. GEAR UP also provided $14,289 toward concurrent enrollment fees for 36 Stilwell students, helping make college-level opportunities more accessible while students are still in high school.
Behind every one of those numbers is a Stilwell student or family gaining information, experiences, resources, and support to help them plan for the future.
We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with Oklahoma GEAR UP and for the investment they continue to make in our students. Partnerships like this strengthen our schools and help ensure our students have opportunities to plan, prepare, and succeed — in college, career, and beyond.

SAIL Academy will host enrollment on August 6 and 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the SAIL Building.
Families should complete the online enrollment process before arriving. Staff will be available during enrollment hours to assist families and answer questions.

As we prepare for the 2026–2027 school year, our district leadership team has been working to review district operations, schedules, and priorities for the year ahead.
As part of that process, revisions have been made to the 2026–2027 District Calendar that was previously shared with our community.
These revisions include changes to school operating hours, holidays, scheduled breaks, and other important dates.
We recognize that families and staff rely on the district calendar when planning work schedules, appointments, childcare, travel, and family activities. For that reason, we want to clearly communicate that the newly published calendar should replace all previous versions.

Stilwell High School is proud to recognize 2026 graduate Wyatt Newsom on being selected as a recipient of The Gates Scholarship, one of the most prestigious and competitive scholarships in the United States.
Each year, only about 300 students nationwide are selected as Gates Scholars from tens of thousands of applicants, making it a scholarship with an acceptance rate of well under 1%. This honor places Wyatt among an elite group of student leaders across the country.
The Gates Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate:
✅ Exceptional academic achievement
✅ Outstanding leadership abilities
✅ Strong character and perseverance

Stilwell Public Schools is proud to announce the selection of Dr. Meleah Hicks as the district’s next Superintendent of Schools.
A proud graduate of Stilwell Public Schools, Dr. Hicks returns home with more than a decade of educational leadership experience and a deep commitment to serving the community that helped shape her life and career. Her background includes leadership roles as an elementary principal, leadership development coach, instructional leader, and district-level coach supporting school leaders across Oklahoma.
Most recently, Dr. Hicks has served as a Leadership Development Coach with Tulsa Public Schools, where she coached and supported principals and assistant principals in strengthening instructional leadership, school culture, systems alignment, and student achievement. Throughout her career, she has been recognized for her ability to build strong relationships, develop leaders, improve systems, and keep students at the center of every decision.
Dr. Hicks earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Arkansas and has dedicated her career to creating learning environments where students, staff, and communities thrive together.
“Returning to Stilwell as Superintendent is both deeply personal and incredibly meaningful to me,” said Dr. Hicks. “Stilwell Public Schools invested in me long before I ever held a leadership title. This community helped shape my values, my work ethic, and my belief in the power of education. It is truly an honor to return home and serve the students, staff, families, and community that mean so much to me.”

Our band traveled to Moore to compete in the OSSAA District Solo & Ensemble Competition, and they absolutely showed up and showed out! 🎶🎶
🎉Our ensemble received a Superior 1 rating

The state competition will take place at Oklahoma State University in mid-April, and we could not be more excited for this incredible group of musicians. 🎶

Due to poor road conditions, especially on the side roads around our campuses and near the elementary, Stilwell Public Schools will be distance learning tomorrow, Wednesday, January 28th.
