Veterans

On November 11, Stilwell Grade school hosted their annual 3rd grade Veterans Day program. We had over 20 Veterans in attendance over the three performances of the day. During our afternoon tribute, we were able to gift one of our guests with a patriotic quilt. The quilt was donated by a community group called Joy Quiliters. The Joy Quilters are a non profit organization in Stilwell made up of several women who donate their time and skills each week to create quilts from fabrics donated by community members. These quilts are given to charity programs to be given away or benefit auctions to help raise funds for certain causes. The group does take community donations of fabric and cash ( which is used to buy more fabric and quilting supplies). Sue Phillips, a former Stilwell Grade School employee said, "Our group of 9 retired ladies love making quilts and we meet every Tuesday to sew our magic." They all send best wishes to anyone who receives their quilts. This group generously donates a built to our Grade School Program every year, and we are able to honor and gift it to one Veteran. This year the recipient of the quilt was Charles Kester. Charles Kester is a resident of Stilwell who served in the United States Army for 6 years. We were honored to have him as a guest and congratulations to him on being the quilt recipient this year! We are proud we can partner with community groups such as Joy Quilters to honor our Veterans!
